Service-minded. Practical. Results-focused.
I'm Dan Strickland, and I've spent my life serving — my country, my family, and my community.
I served in the U.S. Army as a combat veteran with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I know what it means to lead under pressure, to make decisions when the stakes are high, and to put the mission — and the people counting on you — first.
After the military, I built a career in government contracting in Washington, DC and international consulting. I've worked on complex problems with high accountability, tight deadlines, and zero tolerance for excuses. Today, I'm a business owner operating in five states, managing teams and solving problems every day.
But the role I'm proudest of? Husband and father of five. My family is my "why." We chose Ranson because we believe in this community's future — and I'm running to make sure that future is as bright as it can be.
"I'm not running to build a political career. I'm running because my kids live here, my friends live here, and we all deserve a city government that works as hard as we do."
— Dan Strickland
That means I respect taxpayers and believe government should be efficient, accountable, and limited to what it does well. But it also means I'm not afraid to solve problems — quickly, practically, and without partisan games.
If the city commits to something, residents should be able to track progress and hold leaders responsible.
Elected officials work for residents — not the other way around. I'll never forget who I answer to.
I'd rather fix a sidewalk than give a speech about sidewalks. Action over talk, every time.
Every decision should start with one question: Does this make life better for Ranson families?
Every role I've held has required leadership, problem-solving, and a relentless commitment to getting things done right.
Two deployments — Iraq & Afghanistan. Leadership under pressure. Mission-first mindset. Zero tolerance for excuses.
Navigating complex systems, managing accountability, delivering results in high-stakes environments.
Problem-solving across industries and borders. Strategic thinking with practical execution.
Building teams, managing operations, balancing budgets, and serving customers every day.
Experience on community policy and management teams. Deep investment in Ranson's future as a business owner and parent.
Proud member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, carrying forward values of service, resilience, and community.
My family didn't end up in Ranson by accident. We chose this city because we saw what everyone else has: a safe, welcoming community with real opportunity for families and small businesses.
But the potential doesn't become reality on its own. It takes leadership. It takes accountability. It takes neighbors who are willing to show up and do the work.
That's why I'm running. Not because I want a title — but because I want my kids to grow up in a city that reflects the best of what we can be.
"Ranson can be the best of Main Street America. Let's build that future together."
